Preview: Love Carnival with El Búho & Umoja @ Total Refreshment Centre (London, Friday 23rd February 2018)

El Buho Umoja

February is Carnival season across the world and there’s no better way to celebrate it than a colourful, rhythmic, and high-spirited party like the ones that our friends at Movimientos have organised. We are talking about their renowned Love Carnival series.

The next appointment, which will also be the first of 2018 and one of the few happening in London’s East End, will bring to the Total Refreshment Centre in Stoke Newington one of the hippest Andino-inspired DJs and producers: El Búho. The Peak District born Latin music lover will play one of his characteristic sets brimming with organic sounds and tropical scents and won’t miss the opportunity to promote his recently released album, Balance.

Sharing the DJ decks with him there will be Umoja. The Dutch duo is another exciting name in the global beats scene which they are enriching with their always original Afro-groove sounds and Afro-Latin productions and selections.

It wouldn’t be a proper Love Carnival party without its hosts. That’s why Cal Jader, Selecta MadMax, MC Fedzilla and Oddscene will play their part MC’ing the event, bringing you good and vibes and inventive visuals.

So set yourself loose, get ready to dance and party like it was Mardi Gras!

Album Review: El Buho – Natura Sonora [Shika Shika; November 2021]

El Buho – globetrotting DJ and producer Robin Perkins – took nature as inspiration for this latest release, a marrying of folk, electronica and found sound. Self-proclaimed ‘owl by night, environmentalist by day’, Perkins’ reverence for the natural world shines through in this downtempo organic electronica that is bright with…

Album Review: El Búho – Ramas [Wonderwheel Recordings; March 2020]

The ultimate litmus test for any release is to listen to it on a robust pair of closed-back monitor headphones at home. No accentuated frequencies, no fancy cocktails and canapés driving a wedge between you and the mix as it was intended – for better or for worse. In 2020…
