From 2PM till 7PM on our Facebook page, we will have the pleasure of introducing you to and hosting the sessions by musicians and DJs, bringing forward their roots and traditions with dancy electronic beats, far-ranging influences, vintage atmospheres and an all-encompassing approach to music.
We will get things going in North Africa with KasbaH(Nadir Moussaoui), a Paris-based Algerian DJ. In his sets, Nadir presents his Berber and Kabilyan background and blends it with electronica and sonorities coming from the four corners of the world.
From Kabylie to Casablanca, for one of the most up-and-coming names on the global beats scene, Guedra Guedra. The Moroccan DJ, producer and sound researcher, who has recently released an EP on On the Corner Records (Son of Sun), explores the Moroccan music tradition in all its depth and breadth enhancing it with tribal and psychedelic arrangements.
Then in Spain, where we will meet Sharouh (Sarah Perez), a French musician with Tunisian-Greek origins, who currently lives in Madrid. She will let us discover the Sephardic music repertoire with an original set built on her Judeo-Arabic roots and far-reaching influences.
Eliya Pincas, also known as Terra Aziz, will bring us back to Paris where he lives. However, his music perspective is fully focussed on Pan-Arabic sounds and his selections brimming with Middle Eastern dancy vibes.
We will eventually move to London, for a set by the Middle East & North Africa Livestream Special host and organiser,Carthnage. The project, started by the founder of University of Tropical Sounds, is a celebration of deep and bassy sounds.
The last act of the day is a musical embodiment of his homeland. Al-Jive Mestizocomes from Trapani in Sicily and like his island, also the music he plays is a groovy fusion of Mediterranean cultures, rhythms and styles.
The sets will be enhanced by the VJing talent of London-based visual artists L’Aubaine visuals and untitl3d_ldn.
It might be months before we will be able to host a good and proper live event once again, still we do our best to #letthemusicplay in our own “locked down” way. So join us tomorrow at 2PM and support the #letthemusicplay campaign!
