Jazzy teens with a Jewish cause. A young generation of North Londoners are bringing together music of Jewish origin and mixing it with contemporary jazz. The JMI Youth Big Band swing to the influence of funk, soul, jazz and afro-beat led by Sam Eastmond whilst redrawing the context of their cultural music.
On Monday 17th December the group will be releasing their single Stronger Together with a performance at JW3. The recording is an impassioned stand against hate and dedicated to those who didn’t survive the Pittsburgh Synagogue massacre earlier this year. On the night the Big Band will be followed by Bahla, a diverse ensemble of young musicians presenting their own brand of modern cinematic jazz weaved together with Jewish folklore.
A unique converging of song, this will be a celebration of optimism, unity and love and a chance to hear what the next generation would like to say. Bop to the sound of community.
