Preview: Nova Batida Festival @ LX Factory (Lisbon, Portugal; Friday 14th & Saturday 15th September 2018)
Lisbon has a new summer festival exploding onto its already happening music and creative scene, adding to the vibrant and unique energy that the city of seven hills and stunning views already has. The team from Soundcrash are bringing a multitude of global talent for a weekend of good music and good times. Based at the uber-hip locations of the LX Factory and the Village Underground, with headline acts including, Sweden’s dreamy electronic music maestros LittleDragon, Lagos and Nigeria’s new king of afrobeat Seun Kuti, and UK electronic duo MountKimbie.
Think two days of world class electronic, soul, funk and jazz music and so, so, so much more, as they have also lined up a smorgasbord of festival extras, including surf lessons, boat parties, yoga classes and some of Europe’s finest street artists transforming the walls of the Village Underground.
Soundcrash are not only bringing great music vibes, they are also making sumptuous use of Lisbon’s unique location. Some events will be held on local beaches and the picture postcard Rio Tejo, both of which have helped Lisbon become a must-visit destination over recent years. Playing alongside the headliners are some of Lisbon’s freshest artists including DJMarfox from Principe records, iZem – who has a new EP out on Lisbon’s influential underground label Enchufada – and LaFlamaBlanca, who runs the long running tropical bass party Baile Tropicante. On top of all that you have DJ legends GillesPeterson, DJMarky, LTJBukem alongside the TrojanSoundsystem, TuckshopDJs, AfriquoiDJs and StamptheWaxDJs who will be bringing the freshest cuts to keep all the after parties rolling until the sun comes up, ‘cause that’s how Lisbon rolls!
As past masters at bringing diverse musical lineups and gathering heavyweights of the underground music scene together, the London promoters and Soundwave Croatia crew will takeover and transform the sprawling converted LX Factory, with its roof top bars and large courtyards, as well as the converted shipping containers of the Village Underground.
Alongside the headlining acts and big-name DJs, you can also check out fresh sounds from MaribouState, who bring their eclectic, electronic, post trip-hop sound; MaxCooper and his beautifully produced, emotional electronica; GeorgeFitzgerald, who was recently highlighted by The Guardian as one to watch with his latest album; Mndsgn brings his unique, experimental, electronic hip-hop fresh from LA and ConnieConstance summons up ethereal vocals and future soul sounds.
Nova Batida is shaping up to be the perfect end of summer party located in the coolest venues in one of Europe’s current hot spots, and it looks like it’s making a big impression on the majestic city of Lisbon.

Walking into the small, church-like Stanley Halls, one could hear the familiar stabbing-horn sounds of afrobeat emanating from the hall. The venue almost juxtaposed the performance on stage; as one entered, a musical, colourful spectacle erupted from the stage, held together with aged wooden beams and high ceilings. The sound…
