Pussy Riot is a collective that has felt the full thrash of the collision between ideality and reality. They are a punk-rock musical collective that uses song and theatrical performance to convey strong feminist and political activist messages. In 2012, two of their members notoriously ended up in a Russian jail for two years after a protest against Putin atop a Moscow church.
Although the group receives more bad press in Russia, they are revered in the West not only for their bravery but for their artistic talent and diversity. In November, founding member Maria Alyokhina will be showcasing Riot Days at the Islington Assembly Hall. The show will retell the story of their most infamous protest through real-life footage and a composed soundtrack.
Explore the bravery of women who aren’t afraid to stand up for their beliefs at any price. The show may be part disturbing, part stimulating but it will no doubt ask you to inspect your own thoughts on the reasons for resistance in other parts of the world.
