Preview: Pussyfoot Records and Friends @ Lion and Lamb (London; Thursday 16th May 2019)

pussyfoot kongo

Since 1993, when it was launched by trip-hop pioneer Howie B and Nick Young, Pussyfoot Records has constantly brought some eclecticism in the UK music scene, dedicating its work and catalogue to genre-defying sounds and talented musicians.

An example that perfectly embodies the label’s credo is its latest release, 360° by Kongo Dia Ntotila, which will be celebrated at Hoxton’s Lion and Lamb.

The Afro-jazz (or Afro-joy as the musicians love to call their style) band indeed present a wide-ranging and far-reaching sound that links together Central and West African traditions and rhythms with urban and London-inspired jazzy imagery.

On Thursday 16th, join Kongo Dia Ntotila and Pussyfoot Records fellows Houseplants and Ian Simmonds for an evening well assorted in notes and influences, mirroring the many-sided character of the label.

Event Review: Tropical Pressure 2019 @ Mount Pleasant Eco Park (Porthtowan; Friday 12th July to Sunday 14 July 2019)

To bring the Tropics to Cornwall is as complicated as it sounds, but it’s also extremely gratifying. Daily Discovery: 360° // Official Music Video // Kongo Dia Ntotila

“360° is the title track and lead single from the new album by London based, Kongo-Jazz band, Kongo Dia Ntotila (Pussyfoot Records). ‘360°’ is a purely instrumental track that grooves a grungy, funked up sound of African London. Inspired by the burgeoning new jazz scene emerging from the U.K. capital, it’s a clear incarnation of…

Event Review: Kongo Dia Ntotila @ Rich Mix (London; 24th May 2018)

From the first jazz-solo drum rhythms of David Lessie that opened the show, to the cyclical afro-lead from John Kelly’s guitar, every beat of each song resonated throughout the grooving crowd, and certainly through band leader Mulele Matondo, who I’m sure jived to every single note of the show, constantly…
