Preview: Soothsayers + Laura Jurd & Dominic Murcott @ St Peter’s C of E Church, Walworth (London; Friday 24th January 2020)
It’s no secret we’re big fans of Soothsayers here at Rhythm Passport, with their infectiously groovy combination of afrobeat, funk, reggae and dub – the idea of hearing their lively performance in a grade one listed building, and in the excellent reverb chamber that is a church built in 1825 – the evening is surely one not to miss.
Warming up for the formidable Soothsayers is Laura Jurd: a recent recipient of the BBC New Generation Artist for her compositions in trumpet, as well as Dominic Murcott, a renowned composer and percussionists.
The whole evening has been curated by Altar_Native who are curating this event series in the church thanks to an Arts Council, Grass Roots Music grant working in partnership with Louie Louie promotions, who are well known for providing workshops and live music in local communities.
An evening sure to make your hairs stand to harmonious grooves.

Ironically though, Tradition is far from traditional. Idris Rahman’s lyrical themes…
