It was meant to happen last year, but we had to wait another 15 months. In any case, they say that good things come to those who wait…then, here we are, more than thrilled and more than ready to finally re-set in motion the Sounds of the World music series in collaboration with Tramshed!

We will do it in style, with an outdoor, free-entry double-bill gig in the lushness of Greenwich Park part of the Greenwich Family Arts Festival.

On Saturday 3rd of July, between 2PM and 4PM, gather around the park’s bandstand and meet Simo Lagnawi & Gnawa London and Mr Morski. They will let you dance the afternoon away offering uplifting insights into Gnawa and Balkan music.

Simo is indeed a good-and-proper Ambassador of Gnawa culture, he performed on stages such as Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Latitude and BoomTown and his music has been featured (next to Rhythm Passport) on the CNN, BBC 3, BBC 6, Songlines and Vox Africa. He’s also an “illustrious” Greenwich local, so don’t miss the chance to discover one of the most inspired and inspirational interpreters and torchbearers of African Moroccan Gnawa music performing in his “backyard”.

To kick off the music afternoon we have called a true music wizard. Mr Morski has generously enriched the London music scene over the last years, performing and sharing his sweet-sounding magic and eclectic taste with gig-goers all around the city. His repertoire ranges from sanguine Balkan music to smooth reggae vibes and from energising funky beats to upbeat jazz-tinged grooves.

So, expect the unexpected when the mighty Mr Morski jumps on stage!

Album Review: Simo Lagnawi & Gnawa London – Africa Soyo [February 2020]

In recent decades, the music of the Gnawa has transitioned from a repertoire of ritualistic trance-inducing songs – performed exclusively for the adherents of its night-long healing ceremonies – to a more profane yet equally transfixing professional type of music, played on festival stages and in venues the world over. Due not…
