Preview: Tinariwen @ Electric Brixton (London, 9th March 2017)
A 40-year career, seven albums and a Grammy Award can dismiss any need for introductions; they speak for themselves. However, the importance for contemporary music of a band like Tinariwen can’t be stressed enough.
The Malian band still fights, and fights hard with its sound, because Tuareg tradition is still in danger, just as it was in the 1990s, 80s and 70s. Their latest album, Elwan, released just a few weeks ago, forms a stoic and unambiguous signal to this fact.
On the 9th of March, you’ll have the opportunity to be introduced to Tinariwen’s latest work. Soundcrash will bring back to London the Tuareg ensemble, four-months after their sell out November performance in Islington.
On this occasion, the sound of the desert, sharp guitar lines and sinuous melodies will be witnessed in Electric Brixton. We are pretty sure that the outcome will be just as absorbing and inspiring as four months ago and tickets

There was a time, not long ago, when ‘independent’ was the new hype. During the late-1990s/early 2000s, everything needed to be independent or indie to be cool, almost hipster. Labels, bands and venues competed to be or look like as independent as possible. Unfortunately, very few of those (so-called) independent…
