Preview: We Out Here @ Total Refreshment Centre (London; 25th & 26th January 2018)
In 2017 the British jazz scene started taking centre stage and 2018 is likely to see the genre become the rising star of contemporary music with a long-awaited hip-pumping invasion. Brownswood Recordings have brought together their hotly tipped acts from a three-day recording session which produced We Out Here. The compilation album will be showcased by a range of published musicians over two days on the 25th and 26th of January.
Artists included on the LP include well-known jazzers Shabaka Hutchings, Ezra Collective, Nubya Garcia, Kokoroko and Moses Boyd, who all bring rhythm to the forefront. It will also introduce newer bands that may be less familiar such as TriForce, a neo-soul jazz infusion who look as if they should be in school but play as if they’ve been around for many years.
The new album will be presented across two days at Stoke Newington’s Total Refreshment Centre. Originally a social club created by two Jamaican music lovers in the 1980s, it has more recently been turned into a hub of cultural music events for East London.
With worldwide influences, jazz is being led by these young artists who blend global sounds into a multi-disciplinary art form. This is the best kind of invasion to dictate your playlist for weeks to come.
