Preview: Xylouris White @ Moth Club (London; Tuesday 2nd July 2019)
No matter if you call them post-punk, free-jazz, avant-folk, Greek or whatever else, Xylouris White will end up defying your definition. The duo, formed by Cretan oud master George Xylouris and Australian fanciful post-punk drummer Jim White, is quite an anomaly in the music world, showing how you can organically blend together traditional melodies with anarchic rhythms and arrangements.
Since 2014, the anomalous and inspiring project has amazed and satisfied audiences of the most varied tastes, because, despite playing poles-apart styles, what Xylouris and White share is a remarkable musicianship. In fact, more than a fusion combo, they are a well-tuned music collision, and you can enjoy their original sound on Tuesday 2nd July at the Moth Club, when they come back to London more than a year after their Cafe OTO residency.
