Preview: Yasiin Bey @ O2 Forum Kentish Town (London; Sunday 14th April 2019)

Yasiin Bey, better known by his former performer name Mos Def, is a fundamental pillar of classic hip-hop. Yasiin has been featured on countless records and has produced four studio albums, the latest of these is his 2009 album The Ecstatic, which he will give a full live rendition during his upcoming rare show at the O2 in Kentish Town.

As well as the Turkish and Middle Eastern tones mixed and sampled into the album throughout, the evening seems sure to be fuelled with political and social commentary, especially seeing as the opening of The Ecstatic starts with a famous Malcolm X quote:

“We’re living in a time of extremism, a time of revolution, a time when there’s got to be a change. People in power have misused it – and now there has to be a change.”

A strikingly topical subject – hinting that the evening could be full of powerful messages held within the acclaimed lyrics of the classic tracks on The Ecstatic.
