Like an uncle. That’s how I saw Ballaké the first time the Master (Vincent Segal) introduced him to me.
Life doesn’t leave me alone, or it makes fun of me or makes me feel small. This time, the staging was perfect. Vincent Segal took me to the next level in my musicianship and that day, he introduced me to Ballaké, whom my parents listened to when he was playing in the Orchestre National du Mali.
I was dreaming when Vincent told me about Bamako and their recording session. So, I was waiting for the first opportunity to collaborate, and when they called me to participate in the album, I thought about it two minutes before the obvious subject came up, the voice of our body, or rather its subtitle: Our hands.
I come from a line of blacksmiths and Ballaké from umpteen generations of Kora players.” – Oxmo Puccino
