Part of our 10 year celebrations, this special evening brings you a cross cultural live music extravaganza! From the shores of Tanzania with uplifting spiced up east African dance music, to the Latin corner of Colombia with cumbia rhythms fused with Cuban melodies.
The evening will feature two of the greatest artists in world music; Saidi Kanda with his band Mvula Mandondo, and Rafael Bereto with his band Sonpikkante.
Saidi Kanda hails from Tanzania and is one of the most talented multi-instrumentalists and vocalists of African traditional and modern music. A former member of the great Remmy Ongala’s Super Matimila Band, Saidi won WOMAD’s ‘Percussionist Of The Year’ award in 1989, helped form the UK’S Orchestra Baboma, and has performed alongside many greats of African music. For this show he’ll be performing with his incredible band Mvula Mandondo.
As well as Saidi, Rafael Bereto and his exciting 6-piece Afro-Latin salsa band Sonpikkante will bring their energy, joyous sunshine rhythms and tropical flavours to the party. Come ready to move your whole body in true Afro-Latin style!
The evening will also feature African Night Fever DJs plus delicious Afro-Caribbean food available from Brighton’s very own Cummin Up chefs.
Limited seating. £15 advance, £17.50 on the door.
