Join us for a night of Afropolitan Funk
Where we will be serving you the most sumptuous line-up yet! It will include our usual mix of spoken word, visuals and stereophonics.
Numbi is an event set up to promote all that is gorgeous, funky and fresh in London. We are a cross-cultural arts event where gifted poets flex their linguistic muscle, where talented musicians make us move our feet, where cutting-edge filmmakers keep us lensed to the latest films. Numbi is about art, movement, dance, rhythm and it’s about fun!
In the poets’ corner, we have Dorothea Smartt, a poetess-extraordinaire of Bajan descent. We also have Sai Murai, a funkadelic genius whose cadences have a soulful flow. Then there are Elmi Ali and Sam Elmi, two Somali wunderkinds who wield words to show us that there other ways of seeing and being.
On the night, we have the Eritrean-born singer, Miryam Solomon performing two beautiful songs in Tigrinya, the official language of Eritrea, with Bronzehead, a multi-culti crew of Afrobeat funkateers. Accompanying Bronzehead are the legendary Somali musicians Salax Xariri and Macallow. Visuals will be provided by Nathalie Mba Bikoro and Jos Argyle and the DJ selecta will be the inimitable Bradley Zero.
