Movimientos and MAMA SOUND proudly present BaianaSystem one of Brazil’s biggest and baddest live acts.
Coming straight out of Bahia, the group not only amplify sound, but also the essence of local traditions. Influenced by Jamaican sound systems, huge percussive bass lines merge with Afro-Latin rhythms such as Frevo, Samba-Reggae, Pagode, Groove Arrastado, Ijexá, Kuduro and Reggae to create a truly unique sound. Inseparable from their music, the band’s distinctive visuals add a further dimension to their live shows.
2017 saw the release of their second critically acclaimed studio album, Duas Cidades, with their track “Playsom” becoming a world-smashing hit due to its inclusion on the FIFA soundtrack! As at home on stage as they are on the streets, BaianaSystem are out to take Brazil’s carnival spirit to the world.
Since their first studio album release – BaianaSystem (2010) along with the EP Pirata (2013) which delivered the hit “Terapia”, BaianaSystem have performed worldwide at the New Orleans Jazz Festival; at the Global Fest in NY; at Fujirock (Japan), as well as gigs in Russia, China and France. In 2017 the group performed at the renowned Roskilde Festival in Denmark. In Brazil, they’ve been to almost every state capital, having played important festivals like Lollapalooza and Rock in Rio as well as making a huge impact at carnival in Salvador and São Paulo.
“In this moment the entire history of Salvador’s distinctive carnival reaches new heights, as Roberto Barreto’s Bahian guitar guides Marcelo Seco [bass], and Russo Passapusso [vocals] leads the throng - people as far as the eye can see.”

Album Review: Prince Fatty – In the Viper’s Shadow [October 2019]
This latest instalment from Prince Fatty boasts a full-length album deep in dub, packed with collaborations, that is characteristically catchy. ‘Two Timer’ featuring Cornell Campbell and Tippa Irie, the intro track, is classic, from the brilliant opening dub samples to the recognisable vocals of Tippa Irie. It’s smooth, relaxed, and…
