Bixiga 70 In London

São Paulo based ten-piece combo Bixiga 70 one of the guiding voices of Brazil’s contemporary instrumental music scene, make their live UK debut. Taking Fela Kuti’s Afrika 70 band as a launchpad both in name and spirit, this explosive ten-piece unleash a ground-breaking fusion of African and South American rhythms and sounds.

Live Bixiga 70 is a breathtaking rhythmic storm where inspired solos, harmony and dynamics, beats and improvisation all mesh together in vital and unpredictable ways. The band spans a joyous danceability, a sharp sense of humour and committed political reflections.

The band came together in recording studio Traquitana, number 70 at Rua 13 de Maio, a hidden treasure in the neighborhood of Bixiga, Central São Paulo. Hence the name Bixiga 70.

The group’s first two records in 2011 and 2013 hit many ‘best of’ lists in Brazil. But their third album released in September on label to drop, Glitterbeat, has pushed them to a new level.
