Movimientos welcomes back Chico Trujillo - one of the most important bands in Chile - for a big Saturday night cumbia party as part of the band’s European Summer tour.

They are the soundtrack to all Chilean parties, from Arica to Punta Arenas. Their blend of brass fuelled classic Cumbia, Bolero, Latin American music, Punk-rock, Balkan and Reggae, has assured them an audience across all generations and lifestyles..

The group began as a branch of the punk / ska band La Floripondio in 1999 in Valparaiso. Twelve years and five albums later, they have come to symbolize a unique cocktail that has its roots in the cumbia of pre-Pinochet days and has managed to incorporate all aspects of Chilean popular and folkloric culture. They have been able to mix pieces of the past with the global influence of the alternative culture and have fused everything under the Pan American flag of cumbia. The exuberance of the band represents a welcome return to the world of the dance party and night time pleasures by vindicating the popular sounds of traditional fiestas.

In addition to touring extensively in Chile and South America they have conquered the European festival scene with countless shows at the likes of Roskilde and Paleo fuelling their growing reputation as one of the world’s top party bands.

News: Let The Music Play (July 2020)

Earth Hackney hosted a vibrant show by Chico Trujillo as part of their 20th anniversary European Tour, Mambo Mundial. But this wasn’t an ordinary gig. Event Review: Womad 2017 (Malmesbury, 30th July 2017)

This year, we only got a glimpse of the music bonanza offered by the Womad UK weekend. Our stay in Malmesbury consisted of a hit-and-run or a ‘toccata-and-fugue’, in-keeping with the musical topic, and saw us pay a visit to Charlton Park on the last day of the event. Still,…

Preview: Chico Trujillo @ Rich Mix (London, 29th July 2017)

It happened little more than a year ago. On a quiet April night, London was stormed by a cyclone cumbiero. Camden and the Electric Ballroom were battered by the uptempo rhythms coming from Valparaiso and branded distinctly as Chico Trujillo. The sound of the band from Vila Alemana (a few…

Review: Chico Trujillo @ Electric Ballroom (London, 27th April 2016)

The historical Electric Ballroom in the heart of Camden Town, was indeed a ballroom on April 27th. Few bands are able to make the audience dance from the beginning until the very end, but Chico Trujillo is definitely one of them, with their music making it physically impossible to stay…

As it’s happening since 2001, for ten days in April, London sounds and plays Latino. The responsibility rests on ¡COMO NO! which, 15 years ago, started to organise one of the most chéveres Festivals of the London music scene. La Linea has indeed brought to the British capital some of the finest,…
