Top UK Jazz Flautist Chip Wickham brings his soulful spiritual jazz to EFG London Jazz Festival
Mancunian flautist Chip Wickham has become renowned for his highly eclectic and diverse compositions. Drawing overt inspiration from music of the Middle East, South America and of course North America, Wickham fuses and packages this eclecticism alongside his band – including Taz Modi of Submotion Orchestra – in a way that is nothing short of genius.
Chip Wickham spent his formative years in Manchester’s close-knit jazz scene and from the early ‘90s to now, he has divided his time between the UK, Spain (Madrid) and Doha. He connects the dots between the places and people which have shaped his music, drawing from his unique vantage point. As a dedicated student of the history which has come before him, and a player whose experience spans different worlds of musical styles, it gives a natural weight to the music he makes.
Following his critically acclaimed 2017 debut, La Sombra, his latest record, Shamal Wind, draws on spiritual jazz influences like Yusef Lateef and Sahib Shihab, and rests on Chip’s many-sided experience as a musician, spanning left-field beat experiments to hard-hitting funk heavyweights.
Having previously collaborated with, and been praised by, the likes of Nightmares on Wax, Gilles Peterson, and Craig Charles, Chip’s live shows are legendarily dynamic and immersive. Don’t miss your chance to witness the mind-bending musicianship of this Jazz hero. Get your tickets now.

Event Review: Love Supreme Jazz Festival @ Glynde Place (Glynde, Sussex; Friday 5th to Sunday 7th July 2019)
The glorious Love Supreme returned to the prime Sussex pastures of Glynde for its seventh year, and what a return it was. With such a startling array of talent on offer, it was a mighty challenge to stay in one spot for too long for fear of missing out elsewhere….
