Artists: CollocutorThe EFG London Jazz Festival is the capital’s biggest pan-city music festival, taking place annually in November, which has long been acclaimed for showcasing a heady mix of talent from around the world. Widely acknowledged for delivering world-class artists and emerging stars, the Festival continues to take jazz to a massive audience, in one of UK’s landmark music events. On the 24th November 2019 it is with great pleasure that we welcome Collocutor to the living room stage.
Experimental modal-jazz group Collocutor is the brainchild of saxophonist Tamar Osborn.
Collocutor is the brainchild of saxophonist Tamar Osborn. The project grew from her wish to simply write the music that wanted to be written, rather than focus on a particular audience or context.
As such the compositions draw inspiration from the many genres encountered over the course of a varied career, the strengths and experience of the band members, and the cultural melting pot of London. Influences range from jazz, Afrobeat, Indian classical and Ethiopian roots to polyphonic choral music and minimalism – the link being primarily modal music with a transportive effect.
Since 2014, the group has released two albums, an EP and several singles with independent label On The Corner Records. These have garnered support from BBC Radio presenters such as Gilles Peterson, Tom Ravenscroft, Tom Robinson (BBC 6Music) and Max Reinhardt (Late Junction, BBC Radio 3). Second album ‘The Search’ was chosen as one of the Musikexpress (Germany) top 50 jazz albums in their July 2018 edition and lead to a feature in Straight No Chaser magazine (issue 98).
As well as performing music from their first two albums ‘Instead’ and ’The Search’, Collocutor will be previewing material from their forthcoming new album, due for release in late 2019.
“Really good collective…Ethiopique, little bit spiritual jazz and banging.” Gilles Peterson, BBC 6Music
