INTI-ILLIMANI 'HISTORICO'
+ special guest John Williams
"One of the great groups in any style"
John Williams
Inti-Illimani is a legendary instrumental and vocal folk Chilean ensemble and one of the most influential bands in South America and are being joined by Grammy Award winning guitarist, John Williams at London's Union Chapel on Thursday 13th of September.
Formed by a group of university students in 1967, the group acquired widespread popularity for their song Venceremos (We Shall Win), which became an anthem of popular unity in Chile and neighbouring countries. Following exile in Europe during the 70's Chilean coup, Inti-Illimani incorporated new musical elements creating a distinctive fusion of modern world music, becoming internationally known members of the Nueva Canción (New Song) movement.
Led by Horacio Salinas, musical director and composer of many of their emblematic melodies and songs, Inti Illimani have created classic recordings such as 'Palimpsesto', 'Fragments of a Dream' and 'Leyenda' with Paco Peña and John Williams, with their latest album 'Travesura' released this year. Their artistic collaborations include recording and performing with Victor Jara, Violeta Parra, Peter Gabriel, Ana Tijoux, Diego El Cigala and afro-Peruvian singer Eva Ayllon amongst others.
This is a unique musical journey with songs from each era influenced by time and social changes, the breath of vocal and instrumental harmonies, the sounds of South America's folk rhythms and Inti-Illimani's fascinating cultural history.
