Joe Driscoll, 47soul, Deadly Hunta, Rags Rudi + More At Passing Clouds!

Here at Passing Clouds it's been far too long since we've had some of our favourite international (and local!) artists on our stage. So we've decided to remedy that by inviting down the "human jukebox" beatbox champ Joe Driscoll, alongside our longtime friends & bringers of "shamstep" - 47SOUL!

Add a performance from the up & coming Rags Rudi to the mix and you've got a recipe for one hell of a Friday night! AND to top it all off... special guest Deadly Hunta is in the house launching his new album Supa Heru! Don't miss this eclectic lineup which is sure to be an absolute roadblock!

♫♫ Joe Driscoll ♫♫
(Genre defying beatbox & rap from NYC!)

Joe's first memories are of sitting in a corner by the stereo, strapped in with a pair of massive headphones. Obsessed by the music he heard, he spent half his childhood listening to his parents old vinyl of 50s and 60s pop, and the other half sneaking off to listen to his old brothers collection of rap music. As he learned to play instruments and write music, the sounds he produced were clearly equal parts of these two worlds: Beatles and Beastie Boys, Frankie Vallie and Run DMC, The Temptations and LL Cool J. The fusion produced an original sound that defies an easy description.

Not only an innovator for the genre defying music he creates, but also for the way in which he creates it. Joe's ground- breaking live show is a modern day interpretation of the one man band. Utilizing live looping technology, Driscoll loops beatbox (oral percussion) to create the drum tracks live, then adds multiple layers of guitar and other instruments. One man creating the soundscape of a full band, a one of a kind live experience that has seen him in demand throughout the world.

♫♫ 47SOUL ♫♫
(Full force electronic music from the streets of Palestine!)

47SOUL is an electro-mijwez, "shamstep" band.
The members are rooted in Bilad Al-Sham, spanning the divides from Amman to the Galilee to Ramallah. This new sound of 47SOUL has rapidly amassed fans in the Middle East and Europe by blasting the electric Arabic Dabke sound through underground music scenes.

Overcoming physical and logistical challenges, they came together to play electronic Palestinian street music. 47SOUL writes and performs to speak about freedom of movement, whether that’s sparking new dance styles or singing about breaking down border check points. For the past 2 years the band has based itself between Jordan and the UK, to spread their new wave of Arabic music.

Their sound is rooted in Arabic Dabke, the celebration dance music from the Bilad Al-Sham area; the name for the land that spans Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, and Jordan. 47SOUL hypes it up with analog synthesizers, drum machines, epic guitar lines, and tripped-out English and Arabic verses from the four singers. The electronic and urban influence in their music takes them far out of the ‘world music’ context and places them in the genre of a new generation of international electronic/hip hop acts that are reinventing the old for the future. This new sound of 47SOUL is called ShamStep.

♫♫ Rags Rudi ♫♫
(Politicised ska, rap & punk from just round the corner!)

Rags Rudi are seven young East Londoners blending the party-sparking vibe of ska, headiness of hip-hop and politicised chaos of punk into a sound as diverse and uncompromising as the city that raised them.

Having played prestigious London venues like The Garage, Passing Clouds, Barfly, Hootenanny, Camden Jazz Cafe and Rich Mix, Rags Rudi have also done their share of unconventional stages. They have opened for Number One Station with Rico Rodriguez, Jerry Dammers of the Specials, The Selecter, The Beat, and Freddie Notes.

With a full length debut album fresh off the press, Rags Rudi are set to bring their live show to party animals across the globe.

♫♫ The Sultan ♫♫
(Absolute bangers only!)

Having held residencies across Bristol and Manchester, his quick style of mixing through different genres earned him a place in the final of the British Student DJ championships, and airtime on Radio 1xtra and Kiss fm. Whether it be Dancehall, Garage, House, Jungle or Hip Hop, The Sultan is well practiced in creating a party atmosphere that always leaves an impression.
