A multi-media tribute to Markos Vamvakaris featuring bouzouki player Stelios Vamvakaris - the son of Markos - as well as a stellar line-up of top Greek musicians.
Put together by one of Greece's most well-known lyricists, Lina Nikolakopoulou, this concert was presented for the first time as part of the Hellenic Festival at the Herodus Atticus amphitheatre in Athens in 2012 on the 40th anniversary of Vamvakaris' death.
The show is accompanied by specially created film footage, and readings from the diary and biography of Markos Vamvakaris which will be given by rock musician Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand, whose respect for Vamvakaris has been well documented.
'The history is fascinating, but the music is like nothing else I know. When I listen to it I feel a connection with something great. It's thrilling to be a part of something that is a part of me.' Alex Kapranos
'We all, we are but branches of a tree. Markos is that tree.' Mikis Theodorakis
