There’s arguably no better time for shining our spotlight on Hackney Colliery Band. The London big band has reached the 10th year of their (glorious) career, so we wanted to pay them homage by hosting their band leader, Steve Pretty, for the July appointment of our Meet & Greet with the Album series that will be held at the Amersham Arms.
Throughout the evening, the New Cross pub will be filled by notes and words about the latest ambitious release of the ensemble, titled Collaboration Vol.1. The album is indeed the most mature work of the sui generis colliery band. The musicians have embraced new styles and genres, from Afro-funk to Ethio-jazz, welcoming outstanding musical guests, like Mulatu Astatke and Angelique Kidjo, and inevitably giving a brand-new direction to the project whilst still respecting the coal-mining community’s music tradition.
On 23rd July, join us at the Amersham Arms to listen to the words of Steve Pretty, have a sneak peek into Hackney Colliery Band’s story and take home an all-embracing introduction to their brand-new album, Collaboration Vol.1.
