After spending several years mastering his skills in composing music for gamelan, Western music and electronics for his PhD, Aris Daryono is bringing together his new compositions in this concert. His music reflects his background as a traditional gamelan musician and composer who has also been trained in Western classical music. In his music he explores drones, interlocking patterns, repetition, tempo changes and layering. He is also fascinated with creating a range of sonorities and micro-tones within his collaborations for gamelan and other instruments. A SOAS first!
