Bam! Bam! Bam! & Diplomats of Sound Present...
Nubiyan Twist
Brighton Haunt - Wednesday 12th April
We’re delighted to present a headline show with the musical collective, Nubiyan Twist, at Brighton Haunt on Wednesday 12th April.
Nubiyan Twist are a Leeds born, London based musical collective. Orchestrated by guitarist/pro- ducer Tom Excell, they create a unique, infectious sound in an eclectic mix of styles, drawing on jazz, hip-hop, afrobeat, latin, soul, reggae and dance music.
A blend of virtuosic players, skilled producers and inspired composers join forces to lay the founda- tions for singer & MC Nubiya Brandon’s soulful and melodic vocals.
With an epic 10 piece live show featuring a 4 piece horn section, 2 vocalists, electronics and an international (Brazil/UK) rhythm section, Nubiyan Twist create a powerful and unforgettable experi- ence, equally at home lighting up late-night festival headliner slots or selling out the UK’s best jazz venues.
Off the back of premiering their incredible rework of Super Cat’s classic track ‘Dance Inna New York’, the afrobeat/jazz/soul/reggae pioneers have brought it back but in their own style, with a funky fresh take and title ‘Dance Inna London’. Showcasing their rich full band sound, supplement- ing the original vocal with fresh lyrics from lead singer Nubiya Brandon for a new, moody, percus- sive jazz voyage.
Their March 2015 debut album Nubiyan Twist received strong support across the jazz, world and hiphop press, with support from sources as diverse as Huey Walker, David Rodigan, Craig Charles, The Independent, Songlines, Afropunk and SBTV. This was followed up with Siren Song in May 2016,
This show is simply unmissable, you gotta see it live to believe it.
“complex, muscular, honeyed yet assertive” - Independent
“fine horn arranging... interesting future” - Mojo
“A beautiful blend of groovy dub with uplifting horns and soulful female vocals” - The Guardian “a fresh direction” – Clash
“Celebratory... packs a heavy punch” – Afropunk

Guedra Guedra‘s debut LP Vexillology is kicking down borders, offering listeners an experience made from hypnotic and rhythmic arrangements rooted in ancient cultures. Event Review: Love Supreme Festival (Glynde Place, 30th June to 2nd July 2017)
The concept of an outdoor jazz festival hardly conjures images of glitter-filled Glastonbury excitement, a young hip crowd and dance-fuelled elation. However, previously exclusive jazz appears to be undergoing a fashion revolution and the grounds of Glynde Place hinted at this. Love Supreme, the UK’s only three-day greenfield jazz festival…

Interview: Nubiyan Twist (July 2016)
One of the most exciting names on the UK music scene is also one of its most indefinable and difficult to pigeonhole. That’s because the musical ‘dirty’ dozen Nubiyan Twist (in honour of its front woman) dislikes definitions, labels or borders. The band, originally from Leeds, London, Oxford and Dublin…
