Omar Souleyman will grace the Jazz Cafe on the 2nd of November with his electrifying performance of songs mixing dance and Kurdish, Ashuri, Arabic and Turkish folk music.

He started his career as a part-time wedding singer in north-eastern Syria and has become a cult favourite of fans of international beats.

Notable collaborations include Björk, Blur’s frontman Damon Albarn and FourTet, who has produced two of his albums.

Since the start of the Syrian Civil War in 2011, Souleyman has been living in Turkey where he established a free bakery in the border town of Akçakale, in order to serve poor refuge families.
