Arts Canteen proudly presents "Palestine in Song" An evening with Reem Kelani.
Internationally acclaimed singer, musician and broadcaster Reem Kelani is recognised as one of the most enthralling and innovative performers of Palestinian and Arabic music.
In “Palestine in Song”, Reem will take us on a journey through the history and music of her homeland, and beyond. Earlier this year, she explored the traditional music of Palestine from before and after 1948 on BBC Radio 3’s Music Planet.
Reem will be accompanied by masterful UK-based musicians, whom she has introduced to Arabic music: Bruno Heinen on piano, Ryan Trebilcock on double bass and Riccardo Chiaberta on percussion.
"Rarely has the entire tragedy of a people been condensed into artful melodrama by such a powerful and stirring voice." Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung
“Kelani is more than a musician: she’s a teacher, a scholar and a broadcaster. She is also a force of nature, reminiscent in some ways of the Argentinian great Mercedes Sosa.” The Australian
“Kelani’s twin strengths as storyteller and arresting singer of Palestinian poetry and song.” The Financial Times
Doors open at 7.00pm and the event starts at 7.30pm.
Seated places are allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis.
