Rhythm Section presents: Neue Grafik Ensemble, Kwake Bass & MAPS

Neue Grafik

For the final edition of our collaboration this year with Jazz Cafe, we invite 3 hotly-tipped acts that haven’t stopped blinking on our musical radars.

Neue Grafik Ensemble

Neue Grafik has already had a fantastic 2018, he release a killer EP, played our Bank Holiday party and currently on an Australian tour with Bradley Zero and our Australian rep DJ Prequel.

His ensemble was formed early this year, consisting of trumpet player and Vinyl Factory signee Emma-Jean Thackray, Vels Trio drummer Dougal Taylor, bassist Matt Gedrych and of course Fred N’Thepe on keyboards. Taking influence from other the Total Refreshment Centre school of graduates; Soccer96, Vels Trio, and the mighty Shabaka Hutchings - Neue Grafik Ensemble is a quartet representing the traditional jazz connection between London and Paris, creating a synergy that must be seen to be believed. If you were at his sold out show at Buster Mantis- you know exactly why Neue Grafik Ensemble is an absolute must see!

Kwake Bass

MF DOOM's drummer Kwake Bass has been causing a stir of late with his trio project with Wu Lu and Joe Armon-Jones (Armed Kwalu) and his musical direction work for Sampha and Kate Tempest. With his DEM1NS label and clothing line also thriving, he is one of south London's most sought after producers.

MAPS is a unique project helmed by London-based Lithuanian drummer and producer, Marijus Aleksa. With his debut EP hitting shops courtesy of YAM Records to critical praise, now is the perfect time to present one of the best new artists of 2018. His typically 8 piece band seamlessly combine jazz, afrobeat and electronics through epic jams, which segue between full psychedelic Lagosian sweat and the tropics of Havana through impeccable musicianship, enough percussionists and probably the tightest band you’ll see this year. Don’t miss a beat.

As always Bradley Zero will be your host and DJ for the evening. Music begins at 7PM - see you then!
