Rhythm Section Presents: SBFC, Nerija, Emma-Jean Thackray

Our last session at the Jazz Cafe with Harvey Sutherland in 2016 has attained almost mythic status. It was, quite simply transcendent.

As promised (and in keeping with our mission to push the geographical and musical boundaries in 2017), we're back for a new season in our favourite concert venue, the newly refurbished, all-guns-blazing Jazz cafe, and we couldn't be happier! This concert marks the first of a quarterly residency for 2017.

Anyway, enough about us - here's what we have in store for you

Super Best Friends Club

Aka 'your new favourite band'. SBFC have been threatening to breakthrough for some time now, and by all accounts 2017 is their year. With a devoted cult fanbase (including your man BZ since LONGTIME) and one of the most raucous, colourful live shows around, the best friends operate somewhere between psychedelic rock, spiritual jazz and synth pop. With a compliment of some of London's most in demand jazz musicians including drummer Maxwell Hallet (Comet is Coming, Soccer96), front man/multi instrumentalist Jonah Brody and Jordan Copeland on bass, SBFC are the perfect mix of high energy and virtuosity - a band we've been wanting to host since the very beginning of Rhythm Section and the perfect way to inaugurate our new Jazz Cafe residency.

Nérija is a jazz collective made up of a handful of London's finest jazzers from the extended trinity school of music familia. After seeing them upstage Ernest Ranglin with Tony Allen at the Barbican - we're most excited to welcome them into the fold at the Jazz Cafe.

PS Nérija's Nubya Garcia, who has previously collaborated with Yussef Kamaal, will also be spinning some records on the night!

Emma-Jean Thackray

Emma-Jean Thackray is an award winning composer, trumpeter and producer. She is currently part of the Red Bull Music Academy's Class of 2016 and has recently received the Emerging Excellence award from Help Musicians. On top of this, Emma released one of the most exciting and unique jazz records of 2016, "Walrus". When a promo copy arrived at Rhythm Section HQ in 2016, we knew we'd have to do something together and now - the time has come!

"One of the UK's most exciting new jazz artists…" - RBMA

Oh and we have RS chieftain and man of the moment Bradley Zero on the 1s and 2s all night, setting the tone just right.

See you on the dance floor. We start at 7 sharp. Don't be late!
