The young London-based jazz quartet joins us at XOYO to launch their new album "Ironside" with a highly anticipated live performance.
Ironside's music is rooted in the spiritual concepts of jazz heroes such as John Coltrane and Yusef Lateef, whilst adopting influences from hip hop, Afrobeat and the UK underground culture.
The genre-surfing band is led by Ed ‘Tenderlonious’ Cawthorne, the rising star who runs the 22a Music label, which is home to some of the best young musicians in London.
Ruby Rushton’s uniqueness stems from the drawn-out compositions, akin to a Herbie Hancock score, juxtaposed with exciting drum fills and percussive flair, adding in a precious modern and local feel.
The band’s debut release, ‘Two For Joy’, in 2015, was soon followed by two part-albums, ‘Trudi’s Songbook: Volume One’ and ‘Trudi’s Songbook: Volume Two’, which received critical acclaim, earning them air time from the likes of Gilles Peterson, BBC 6 Music, Jazz FM and Benji B.
Support comes from Leeds-based, electronic-soul quartet Noya Rao!
