Malawi's two-man musical army touch down in East London for an intimate show

"Vibrant and uplifting" - BBC Africa

From the streets of Lilongwe to Love Shack LDN – this is a rare opportunity to experience the authentic sunshine sounds of the country known as 'the warm heart of Africa'

First discovered by a local producer busking outside a shopping centre in 2009, Madalitso have walked the streets of Malawi's capital, Lilongwe, their whole lives – playing songs about life, love, hardship and beauty, which they compose together in a kind of trance, with words never being written on paper.

"So what that we can't afford instruments, we'll build our own" Madalitso's infectious performances have gained fans across the globe – a journey that in the past 5 years has seen them set foot on an aeroplane for the first time, to tour countries across Europe and play at festivals such as WOMAD (UK) and Roskilde (Denmark).

This summer, they've released the second of two stunning LPs on Swiss label Bongo Joe Records. Band manager, musical storyteller and UK folk exile Neil Nayar plays in support. Back in 2012, he travelled to Malawi with a one-way ticket, a guitar and no money. The rest is history...

Now on the final leg of their European tour, this is the only London gig before they return home – and it's set to be a special one!

Take Flight resident uncle mo warms up on the night, with an all-vinyl selection of groovy African sounds.

Thursday 14th July forecast: a high of 28°C, with sunshine.
