The conflict in Syria caused many artists to leave their country. Last summer, 50 musicians and singers were reunited by Africa Express as the Orchestra of Syrian Musicians for a short European tour alongside guests including Damon Albarn, Rachid Taha, Paul Weller, Bassekou Kouyate, Julia Holter and Noura Mint Seymali. For many of the Syrians, it was the first time they had seen each other since the outbreak of conflict six years ago.The exhilarating shows – including one in London broadcast worldwide by YouTube – and subsequent album were widely acclaimed. Some of the musicians, settled in Britain and Europe, continued working together and are delighted to bring their amazing energy, remarkable Arabic classical music and beautiful melodies to London – for their debut show in this formation – offering a more positive perspective on Syria and its culture than events seen nightly in the news.Their joyous and uplifting show will feature special guests they’ve picked up on their incredible journey, including singer-songwriter and rapper Maverick Sabre and Lebanese-Syrian rapper Eslam Jawaad.
