"Without Tony Allen, there would be no afrobeat" - Fela Kuti
"Perhaps the greatest drummer who has ever lived" - Brian Eno
There can be no disputing the fact that Tony Allen is a legend not just of afrobeat but of 20th century music as a whole. We're proud to present the launch of 'The Source', his new record on iconic jazz label Blue Note Records, which according to Mr Allen is the best recording he's ever made.
Featuring the likes of Damon Albarn, Yann Jankielewicz (saxophone), Rémi Sciuto (saxophone), Vincent Taurelle (keyboard), Daniel Zimmermann (trombone) and Mathias Allamane (double bass), the record showcases a set of original songs inspired by his hero, Art Blakey.
Opening the show on the night will be fast rising London based 7 piece afrobeat outfit KOKOROKO.

Podcast: Radio Mukambo #497 – Future Sound of Afrobeat
This week Radio Mukambo only serves afrobeat. Some sounds you’ll recognize as afrobeat, others may be what the future of afrobeat will sound like. Which is the case for Tony Allen‘s posthumous album “There Is No End”, more hiphop than afrobeat, except for the drumming, of course! The master drummer…

Event Review: We Out Here Festival (Abbots Ripton, Cambridgeshire; Thursday 15th to Sunday 18 August 2019)
An inaugural festival is always going to be packed with risk and suspense, and after the downpour that Friday night experienced, a breath was held in anticipation of Saturday’s events. However, it is with sheer delight I report that the proceedings seemingly went ahead seamlessly. Saturday I have to jump…

Set in the heart of the Sussex Downs, Love Supreme Festival returned for its 6th year of spreading the gospel of jazz, blues and soul to some 40,000 music lovers. Unless you were the man who told me, bizarrely, that he “doesn’t like virtuosity in music”, you were going to…
