Rhythm Passport will join forces once again with global beats and global bass purveyors University of Tropical Sound and their DJ troupe formed by Carthnage and Moon Presence (spinning Afro-bass, gqom and afrobeats from the DJ-deck) to deliver to the Jago dancefloor 6 hours of top-notch sounds starting with the afrobeat, highlife and afro-fusion joy spread by Thabany Nyoni and his T-Bone Afrika All-Stars.
They will raise the curtain on the event and set the party mood for the Afro-Latin musical exuberance of Juanita Euka. The singer/songwriter (niece of the legendary Congolese music ‘Grand Maitre’ Franco Luambo) was brought up in Buenos Aires and is currently jazzing up the London music scene enriching the line-up of bands like London Afrobeat Collective and Wara and Animanz (among others).
On the night, she will present her brand-new solo album Mabanzo, released only a few days ago via Strut Records and boasting a deluge of Congolese rumba, juicy Afro-Cuban accents, pinches of Afro-Latin styles like salsa and mambo as well as more London-inspired sounds like R&B, hip-hop and Nu-soul.
And after Juanita’s set…the ‘Queen of Afrorave’, Toya Delazy! London-based, but born and bred in Zululand, Toya is a singer, producer, pianist, dancer and performer who brings dance music to the next level. Her sound is indeed based on techno, deep house and d’n’b, which she enhances with quintessential Zulu-inspired vibes and rhythmic patterns characterised by relentless drumming and an Afro-futurist attitude.
Her sets are one-of-a-kind, intense and sweaty music ceremonies during which you are lured and charmed into a swirl of incessant beats and end up dancing for hours and hours and hour and…
Might sound a bit profane, but this year, you won’t find a more exciting way to spend the Holy Saturday than raving the night away with us at the Jago!
