We will be celebrating the first event of our 25th Anniversary Year, showcasing an eclectic range of musical talent, including refugee and asylum seeker artists (details below). Some of the proceeds from this night will support a refugee arts fund (Lorraine Ayensu Refugee Arts) and help refugees access diverse cultural events.
Confirmed acts so far
Ali Elmubarak and Knud Stuwe are fast becoming an established oud duet. They first performed together during last year's Refugee Week. Besides being a guitar and oud player, Knud is also a composer and he has been learning some of the melodies that Ali has brought with him from Sudan.
Moussa Kouyate - a master kora player from Senegal who has become a familiar face in Bristol. Moussa is established as an international artist following professional visits to Europe including solo performances at WOMAD, Edinburgh Fringe and Glastonbury Festivals, The Royal Festival Hall, Barcelona World Music Festival and on BBC Radio 3 and TV Music Live. Since 2000 Moussa has also worked in collaboration with Kevin Brown, UK slide blues guitarist with whom he has toured and released an album “Kora Blues”.
Kaywan & Dijwad - Kaywan is a Kurdish singer who has perfomed in Bristol during Refugee Week, with a broad range of Persian songs. He will be accompanied by Dijwad on the saz, a traditional Persian stringed instrument.
