Independent UK record label Wah Wah 45s are as well known for their huge parties and live events as they are their eclectic collection of artists and releases, and on Friday May 25th, for the first time, they take the party to The Garage to showcase some of the imprint's finest acts, new discoveries, new friends and a legendary DJ or two, headed up by possible the most popular and riotous act on the imprint, the Hackney Colliery Band!
This nine-piece East London brass juggernaut have seen their profile and fan base grow incredibly fast over the past twelve months. Their cover versions of Toto's "Africa" and Blackstreet's "No Diggity", as well as barnstorming live shows at The Scala and The Jazz Café (including an infamous collaboration with the late Amy Winehouse) have fast made them London's, if not the UK's, most hotly tipped contemporary brass band. This show will see them showcase new material for the first time, including a heap of fresh original tunes and their hugely anticipated new "Prodigy Medley" (out soon on Wah Wah 45s).
Support comes from stalwarts of the 12 Tone scene, afro-jazz-reggae masters and no mean horn blowers themselves, the deeply cosmic United Vibrations, and another Wah Wah 45s signing, Scrimshire, whose recent release "The Hollow" was described by Gilles Peterson as "A late contender for album of the year and possibly one of the best album's Wah Wah 45s has put out"!
And if that wasn't enough, we've also managed to grab ourselves a legend of the soulful music scene direct from Berlin - one of the key members of Jazzanova (dj set), Class Brieler, who'll be treating us to an exclusive rootsical boogie, soul and disco set!
Add to that Wah Wah 45s favourites the Part-Time Heroes (dj set), head honcho Dom Servini (dj set) and upcoming starlet DJ Konvex dropping musical bombs in between and you've got one serious party on your hands.
Look out for the Hands On Family running the Wah Wah Shop as usual, and optical delights courtesy of our favourite light surgeons,
Exceeda & Jim Hairy Eye.
