Playlist: EarthGarden Festival @ Ta’ Qali National Park (Malta; Thursday 30th May to Sunday 2nd June 2019)
We know that summer is still one month away, but you can already breathe it deeply by taking the next weekend off and heading to Malta for EarthGarden Festival.
The event, which debuted back in 2007, is the largest festival happening on the Mediterranean island and features more than 120 acts from all over the world playing every sort of style, from roots to hip-hop, reggae to techno, and drum’n’bass to funk.
To give you a glimpse of what is going to happen in the six areas nestled in the beautiful Ta’ Qali National Park between 30th May till 2nd June, we have asked Neville Bone (EarthGarden music programmer) to compile a playlist for us. He focussed his selection on the Roots Stage and its programme, which fully mirrors the open-minded, eclectic and inclusive nature of the festival.
Enjoy his selection and jump on the first flight to Malta!

'Glorja Tonna' is one of the most popular tracks from satirical band, XTRUPPAW.
'Glorja Tonna' is a fictitious name, like 'Joe Bloggs'.
The English translation is as close as we got, as the lyrics use strong slang connotations in Maltese.
As everyone got drunk or made a fool out of himself/herself some time in his/her life time, this song can easily bring back those shameful memories.
Hope we did the song justice so that everyone can have a laugh.
XTRUPPAW are:
Jeffrey Galea: Vocals & guitar
Noel Cuschieri: Vocals
Marvin Zammit: Guitar
Ronald 'Rex' Grech Santucci: Bass & backing vocals
Dino Mifsud Lepre: Drums & backing vocals

Lyrics//
If you wanna start a revolution
Yeah, you got to start within yourself.
If you have a revelation,
yeah, you got to share with someone else.
Some one else,
Some one else.
One to all,
All to one,
Some one else,
Some one else.
One to all!
*
Love,
Opening.
Fear,
Going away.
My brothers,
We are uprising!
We are,
Open, open
Open, open
Open!
Open the doors to love,
Open the doors to freedom,
Open the doors to yourself!
Open the doors to...
***
Make history, 'cause
The writers are the readers
why fight for the leaders
When fighting is where it leads us...
If you are a writer,
Make it brighter!
Because life is a gift,
Blessed by the power to empower
this blissfull, full filling experience,
That we are, life is, one word,
carrying the memory, of all life forms.
Transform, transcend!
No end...
*
We are,
Open, open
Open, open
Open!
Open the doors to love,
Open the doors to freedom,
Open the doors to yourself!
Open the doors to...
*
If you wan't to start a revolution,
Yeah, you got to start within yourself.
If you have revelation,
Yeah , you got to share with some one else *
Some one else,
Some one else.
One to all, all to one.
Someone else,
Someone else.
One to all...
*
Start a revolution!

ONIPA means ‘human’ in Akan, the ancient language of the Ashanti people of Ghana. It’s a message of connection through collaboration: from Ghana to London, our ancestors to our children, Onipa brings energy, groove, electronics, afrofuturism, dance and fire!
Born out of deep collaboration between long time friends K.O.G (Kweku of Ghana of K.O.G and the Zongo Brigade) and Tom Excell (MD, guitarist and writer of acclaimed jazz/ soul/ afrobeat pioneers Nubiyan Twist), the 4 piece live show features K.O.G on vocals, balafon and percussion, Tom Excell on guitar, percussion and electronics, Dwayne Kilvington (Wonky Logic) on synths and MPC and Finn Booth (Nubiyan Twist) on drums.
Already booked for The Great Escape (Brighton) and the main dance stage (Kamikaze) at Shambala Festival, it’s a fresh, raw, fiercely energetic new sound, fusing electronics and deep afro grooves. Think Konono no.1 meets Shangaan Electro, Songhoy Blues and Débruit….
