Agrupación fundada por el contrabajista y productor musical Leonardo Gómez, Alé Kumá toma su nombre de una danza tradicional de los indígenas guahíbos --población aborigen del oriente colombiano-- que simboliza el reencuentro y la unión familiar, y se traduce, en la lengua de esta comunidad, como "unión sin ruptura". Desde su fundación Alé Kumá se ha convertido en uno de los espacios para el encuentro de músicos tradicionales más importante de los últimos años en Colombia, por sus filas han pasado muchas leyendas de la música folclórica, algunos de ellos ya fallecidos, como el mítico percusionista Paulino Salgado "Batata III" y la lejendaria cantaora Etelvina Maldonado. La agrupación se especializa en las músicas mestizas de influencia africana que se cultivan en los litorales Caribe y Pacífico colombiano. En el año 2002, publicó su primer álbum titulado "Cantaoras", junto a Etelvina Maldonado, Martina Camargo, Gloria Perea y Benigna Solís; trabajo que recibió Disco de Oro por las ventas realizadas, y se convirtió en la primera producción folclórica en recibir un galardón de estas características en Colombia. En el año 2005, publicó "El poeta del valle del Sinú" al lado de la leyenda del folclor Pablo Flórez. El canal de televisión Telepacífico ha realizado dos videos documentales donde se muestra el trabajo investigativo que ha sustentado la elaboración de estas producciones.
