Video produced by Liam Farrell
A dark, thundering Kinshasa meets Paris soundworld. Ecstatic vocals, broken beats, subterranean bass and full-throttle energy. This four-piece group of sonic groundbreakers have delivered a scintillating debut album. The fulfilment of their long-held dream to create an African band with the weight and sensory attack of
knife-edged rock and hot-wired club beats.
Features ex-members of Staff Benda Bilili, Konono No.1, Jupiter & Okwess, Mbongwana Star plus producer/musician Doctor L (Tony Allen, Mbongwana Star, Les Amazones d’Afrique).
You’re in a club in Paris - the ‘Djakarta’ maybe, or the ‘Mbuta Lombi’, or the ‘Lossi Ya Zaza’. Not just anywhere in Paris, but in that raucous, feverish little African village, they call Chateau Rouge. 10th arrondissement. You could be back in Matongé, downtown Kinshasa, or in the Grand Marché, centre ville. You feel at home. But it’s freezing outside. You’re definitely in Europe. Cops with CS gas canisters hooked to their belts are roaming around harassing the illegal hawkers, the little shégué street-kids who hang around the entrance to the metro, touting for wig shops and nail salons or trying to sell you cheap phone cards so you can call home and tell your mama and papa you’re ok, still alive, ‘having a ball’. The cops are asking African youth for their papers. But you haven’t got any. Tough shit if your luck runs out. This life has no safety net. The music’s pumping loud and dirty: hip hop, electro, soukous, ndombolo, funk, rock, grime, whatever. You’re a citizen of everywhere, balling life under the radar in this African Blade Runner where the whole world meets, soaking up every beat going, no excuses, no regrets, loving it, eating it, spitting it out.
Welcome to Bantou Mentale, a brand-new chapter in a very long story.

Devenus forts, surtout exigeants.
Partis loin, partis vite, partis trop tôt !
Tous partisans d’autres vies, d’autres idéaux !
Andi ghoheute skeulivar sani,
Ouliw assa gui ifcheul igheuyan.
A vavan haghya vavan
S’keulavar avlate sdaouw l’canoun.
Andi ghoheute skeulivar sani,
Ouliw assa gui ifcheul igheuyan.
A vavan tahian vavan
S’keulavar avlate sdaouw l’canoun.

Penguin Cafe have revealed the video for their new single 'Chapter', taken from the highly anticipated new album 'Handfuls of Night', released on October 4 via Erased Tapes.
The captivating single-shot video for was filmed in New York on The Roosevelt Island Tramway at Queensboro Bridge and directed by Des Murphy. The use of a city that occupies such a massive part of our cultural imagination, particularly on the silver screen, highlights the track’s vivid filmic feel, as does its inspired adoption of noir tones.
“Chapter is for me one of the big tracks on the album. We got into this mindset where we were creating cinematic story lines for our imaginary penguin protagonists – and this one was a lot of fun to make. There's a hint of 70's cop-show about the main motif with the double push in the bass line and we got this idea of a hard-boiled detective-penguin, with a leather jacket and a cool car in New York. The video totally goes with that feel. I love the idea of a familiar landscape being gradually moved into an imaginary, almost dreamlike version of itself – and the slow build in the video hit this exact note.” — Arthur Jeffes
'Chapter' is the second piece to be take from Handfuls of Night, the highly anticipated follow-up to Penguin Cafe’s much applauded 2017 album The Imperfect Sea. Released on October 4, this glacial new LP is inspired by Arthur Jeffes’ journey following in the legendary explorer Scott’s footsteps, the Antarctic and our penguin friends that reside there.
Penguin Cafe are taking Handfuls of Night around the UK and Japan this autumn before heading out on a worldwide tour in 2020, with more dates to be announced very soon.

Marigolds
The word that you had found for me,
Was a favorite sound of mine
It swayed under your canopy
To fill the end of time
I was the only one this century
To remind you all is fine
With every truth there is a mystery
With a vision so divine
I wish that I had met you
When your heart was safe to hold
When you were simple and fancy,
In that field of marigolds
And when you burned the sentiment
Like a candle next to mine
The southern wind it kept the flame
Flickering in time
I wanted everything to be confused
And the mission not aligned
But when I looked into your sacred eyes
I was empty with no surprise
And when I wasn’t so happy
I would say a prayer of old
When we were simple and fancy
In that field of marigolds
I wish that I could grow up with you
I wanna see the world the way you do
I want to fall off the edge with you
I want to fun with you
I was the only one this century
To remind you all is fine
With every truth there is a mystery
With a vision so divine
I wish that I had met you
When your heart was safe to hold
When you were simple and fancy,
In that field of marigolds
Mateo Kingman - Puerta de Sal (Official Music Video)
Puerta de Sal is part of Mateo Kingman's second album Astro.

Artist and Director Text
Words of Mateo Kingman
“Wombs like walls, like atmospheres”
Salt is what keeps us closed energetically, the “door of salt” is the door you go through to
enter the great mystery, what we can’t understand, the unknown.
This song talks about shedding your skin, and the portals we go through in time.
From conception, birth, the different stages of growth, death... it’s a nod to something that
Lhasa Sela once said in a concert: “...when we are conceived, we appear in our mother’s womb as a diminutive light, suspended in this immense space. Then we grow and this world that we are inside, which seemed so enormous at first and so infinitely welcoming, has become very uncomfortable.
And we are forced to be born. And in the moment of birth we all think: this is death, this is
the end of my life. And we are born and it is such a surprise, because it’s just the beginning...”
On this album I explored contrasts between the rhythmic and the atmospheric. I like the
shock and the rupture that is generated by a sudden, radical change in one same song. This
could be a trap song, but when it gets to the chorus it all expands out, the melodies get
stretched out, the music becomes spatial and tense and it becomes a music with no genre.
Words of Jerónimo Albornoz (Music Video Director)
At JUGO co. we’re proud to present the video for “Puerta de Sal”.
Jero Albornoz, CEO & Director, tells us about his experience:
For me, “Puerta de Sal” was an exploration and a personal encounter in which I was able to
combine just right with Mateo’s vision. It was one of those projects where everything flows,
and in our need to tell our personal stories, as artists, we touched unimaginable heights.
One of the biggest challenges and production values was the decision to shoot the video in
Super 16. Returning to film, after several years of “obsolescence” because of digital, and
getting back to the roots was priceless.
“Puerta de Sal” contemplates an intense but restrained transformative process in which
Mateo faces his inner demons after he’s abandoned in a post-apocalyptic world.
Images loaded with texture and symbolism, a powerful narrative and scenic work that
dances with the sounds and lyrics of this key track in the journey that is “Astro”.

MAX COOPER
Thanks for having a look at the first video from my next audio-visual album coming later this year. The whole project was a commission from the Barbican centre in London, where they do a lot of great events, I've seen many of my favourite gigs there. So I wanted to prepare something special, and something intense, using the structure of the beautiful hall there as a canvas for the show. Their brief was around emerging new technologies and how they're changing society, so I tried to boil the whole process down to its fundamentals which I could visualise and write music for - which spawned "yearning for the infinite". The idea being that we're locked in our societal- and nature-driven pursuit of growth and knowledge and more, always more. I had come across some really beautiful ideas for visualising the infinite which I'll tell you more about later as the content comes, and I decided to combine these abstract visualisations with stories of us, in our endless activity as part of the systems in which we exist. This also gave me the potential for the scale and intensity I wanted to create for the project. This particular chapter comes later on in the show when both the human story and the abstractions (transcendental digits from Martin Krzywinski, aperiodic tiling from Jessica In and dividing surfaces from Andy Lomas) start to merge. The great visual artist and long term collaborator Nick Cobby had time in Mexico city which seemed an amazing opportunity to capture this dense human activity, and once again he's created another of his tightly synced and detailed masterpieces, many thanks Nick! I recommend watching on a big screen where possible. Lots more to come soon, thanks for watching and listening.
NICK COBBY
Max's idea for Perpetual Motion was to document the continuous movement of people, exploring how there is no inherent meaning in life, only our own meaning which we create through striving towards our goals. When we discussed the idea of the film, Max and I felt Mexico City was the perfect place to use as a canvas. A sprawling metropolis of 9 million people, all packed in tight and some really interesting land forms and architecture. I then got the idea of using drones when scouting for locations on Google Earth. There were some amazing geometric forms that when viewed from above give an entirely different perspective of the city. I was really interested in the juxtaposition of these orderly forms with the irregular, disorderly chaos confined within it. For me it really helped push the idea of living as part of a perpetual system. I collaborated with 3 very talented Mexican photographers who shot some incredible footage for me, Manuel Marañón, Roberto H and Santiago Arau. It was a pleasure to collaborate with them and I hope the film can be shown in Mexico some time soon. For the animation side, I collaborated with Andy Lomas and Jessica In, integrating their forms frame by frame into the drone footage with my own point data, aiming to create unexpected transitions and connections between reality, hyper realism and the hidden systems beneath.

Pra suportar a erupção
