'Kichhu Din Mone Mone' by Parvathy Baul

Keep something to yourself! At least for a few days. A strange call in our age of show and display. In this delightful song, the poet urges us to keep our love for the Beloved hidden from the world, deep in the corner of our hearts. *** Find lyrics/translation of this song at http://ajabshahar.com/songs/details... Discover a universe of Bhakti, Sufi, Baul poetry and music at http://www.ajabshahar.org. *** Typical of the oral traditions, there are different opinions about the poet of this beautiful song. Parvathy says after consultations with respected Baul practitioners that it is most likely to be Uttam Chand Goshai, though Roshik Das and Rasaraj Goshai are also advanced as possible authors. Whoever the poet, the listener's true calling is to imbibe the 'ras' (essence). In September 2011, Parvathy Baul graciously welcomed the Kabir Project team to her home in Trivandrum and we got an opportunity to immerse in songs and satsangs with her over an intense 7 days. One night in the akhada in the upper part of her home, Parvathy performed this song to an intimate audience of friends. Parvathy is a Baul singer and saadhika, painter and storyteller from Bengal and has been a disciple of Shashanko Goshai and Sanatan Das Baul. She divides her time between her home in Trivandrum, Kerala and the Baul ashram she has built near Shantiniketan in Bengal. Derek Gripper: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

Tom Cole | December 16, 2016 — You probably shouldn't be reading this — just listen to Derek Gripper play and watch his fingers work. You can see and hear his classical training from his first notes behind the Tiny Desk. The 38-year-old started on violin at age 6, then wound up with one of the few classical-guitar professors in his native South Africa. But touring the world playing the music of the great dead white men was not all that appealing (though Gripper still loves to play Bach). Then he heard a record by the Malian kora player Toumani Diabate. He decided that that's what he wanted to do: not play the kora itself, but play kora music on the guitar. Of course, the kora has 21 strings, each tuned to a fixed note. The nylon-stringed guitar Gripper plays has six. But by using unusual tunings and fretting the strings up and down the neck with his left hand, he can pretty much hit all of the kora's notes. He shows how he can evoke the West African instrument's multiple voices simultaneously in the third piece of his Tiny Desk concert, "Jarabi." The remarkable thing is, he figured all of this out — and recorded two acclaimed albums — just by listening to CDs and checking out music online. Gripper painstakingly transcribed what he heard onto a kind of notation called tablature — similar to the music written for the Renaissance vihuela, which was also an inspiration. Earlier this year, Gripper finally made it to Mali, where his efforts received the blessing of Toumani Diabate himself; the two even jammed together. Now, go back to the concert. Libraries On Fire is available now: iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/l... Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Libraries-Fi... SET LIST "Tuth Jara" (Trad. Arr. Namlo - Maya ko Gaatho | Junkiri Sessions |

Namlo is a Nepali fusion band committed to raise the profile of Nepali music in global context. Ganga Thapa’s remit in this context brings together all his collective experiences with various world musicians to represent and make Nepali music accessible in a contemporary way by fusing indigenous Nepali folk with other stylistic/ethnic global influence. Namlo brings homeland with poetic lyrics and melodies inspired by Himalayan foothills and mountains, whilst weaving a cross-cultural musical soundscape influenced by West Africa to South America. The word, “Namlo’’, is a strap used together with a “DOKO” basket to transport goods. It’s meaning is symbolic as the weaving of the basket represents the cultural bonding and support of the Nepalese community worldwide. Hakpare ~ A song of the HImalayas

Posting this song once again, but this time separately as i had so many requests wanting it to be alone rather than being an intro to a lesson ! This tune is really special as its what me and the people in my hometown grow up hearing ! A song that radiates so much to the peacefulness and warmth in me !! This song from the mountains called “Hakpare” is a melody of the Limbu Community residing in the Eastern Part of Nepal ! This song is also a beautiful example of the use of the Major Pentatonic scale, the scale that is used the most around the globe in all cultures, ethnicity and musical styles !! Thank u dearest Jhuma Limbu (for working years to get this tune from the real singers of the mountains and also for letting me post it ) and all involved in this project for making this video special ! The reason behind this playlist is that all the artists have their own story to tell so that motivates me to see things differently. Even though we might not speak the same language but music makes us connected in someway. And thats the reason I wanted to choose artists with different backgrounds, different ethnicity

(Jaire)

Guitarist Mannu Shahi and drummer Birat Basnet are “two friends sharing their love for animals, nature, music, life and each other“. In 2017, they joined forces to form Jaire, a math-rock/post-punk band based in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Last August, they released Prakriti | Prabriti, their debut EP or as they described it, “a collective of stories we see, face and hear about being a part of this magical natural realm..
